Nebraska Nepalese Society (NNS) successfully hosted its annual Health Camp, providing essential health services to 43 participants. The event was a resounding success, with attendees receiving valuable health screenings and guidance.
During the camp, two participants were identified with potential undiagnosed diabetes and were promptly referred to their primary care physicians (PCPs) for further evaluation. Additionally, two others with potential prediabetes received crucial counseling on lifestyle modifications and follow-up care. All participants benefited from personalized advice based on their lipid profiles, hemoglobin levels, A1C, and other critical tests.
This initiative was made possible through the exceptional coordination of Dr. Subash Baniya, Healthcare Coordinator for the NNS, whose efforts were supported by a state grant from the Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS). The event also saw the invaluable contributions of Dr. Nabin Sapkota, Dr. Anupa Giri, and Dr. Punya Dahal, who offered their time and expertise to ensure its success.
The Health Camp was further supported by a dedicated group of student volunteers, including Safal Sapkota, Kritika Kandel, Sambridi Sharma, Sudha Paudel, Swachhanda Sapkota, Sunam Dhakal, and Saral Sapkota. Their efforts were integral to the smooth operation of the event.
Special thanks go to Dr. Rashmi Ojha for her continued leadership and input, as well as to the NNS Board members—VP Shiva Thapa, Executive Member Ashok Dhakal, and Treasurer Bikash Dhakal—whose support was crucial in making this event possible.
The Nebraska Nepalese Society is proud of the impact this Health Camp has made on the community, helping to foster greater health awareness and well-being among its members.
